Up just after 8:00 and we started packing up our things so we could get on the road at a decent hour. After loading the truck and saying our goodbyes to Dulcie, Evan & Reece (Drew was off riding his bike somewhere), we went to their home to take showers and hook up the motorcycles. Gary rode with us so he could bring his jeep back to pull their camper home. While we were getting showers he went to pick up Jill so she could pull her trailer home, too. She again was not able to camp as she needed to spend time with her ailing father who is in a nursing home near by. Gary came back by to say bye and we were able to tell Jill goodbye that way also.
We left at 8:50 CST by the truck clock, almost 9:00 like usual, ha! We thought we would stop for breakfast at the nearest Cracker Barrel. Within the hour we found one and pulled in. It was packed with folks coming home from yesterday's NASCAR race, so we got on the waiting list for next available. I shopped and Chan enjoyed one of their outside rockers until we were called. Chan got the special, 3 huge pancakes covered with fresh strawberries and cool whip with a side of bacon and scrambled eggs. I asked him if he would share some of his pancakes and he agreed, so I got eggs, bacon, grits and biscuits. We ate until we couldn't eat anything else, I told him we should just snack for supper! |
We were back on the rode a little after 11:00. I typed on this journal all the way until we got to Atlanta. By that time I was feeling very sleepy. I asked Chan how he felt and he told me he was fine. I let my seat back and was out within 5 minutes. I woke myself up twice catching my breath (not snoring because I do not do that). Chan told me I was out for quite a while. Now, that is the way to go through Atlanta...just sleep the entire time! We got to Phoenix City, AL around 5:30 and Chan said he would like something hot to eat. He was in the mood for Chick-Fil-A and we were able to find one. He got a sandwich and I got a salad, so much for snacking for dinner! We finally arrived home at 8:30 and it was good to be home after riding all day. I started this journal the day we left Boone to go camping and then typed all the way home to Florida from NC, except for the nap through Atlanta. It really made the time pass quickly and I knew if I didn’t work on it then I would have a hard time finding enough time to do it when I returned home. I know Chan works on his journals for hours and now I understand why it takes so long. We had a great trip and look forward to the next time we can go camping, and our next visit with Gary, Dulcie & the boys, as well as their friends which have now become our friends, Tripp, Martha & family.
