June 19

I woke up about 5:30, looked out to see the tide WAYYY out.  It had been about 10 feet from the back of the RV last night, and now was probably 300 yards away!  Mom was not feeling well this morning, I checked in to see if I could do anything for her, but she just wanted to get some more sleep.  We all slept till 8, and Mom felt better when she awoke.  I went for a jog while the girls made breakfast…biscuits and sausage.  We messed around until noon, when we drove out to East End Road and Skyline Drive, where we got some great views of the bay.

This would be a great motorcycle road.

Mom commented on how junky some parts of Alaska look.

That is Homer Spit sticking out into the bay.

We moseyed back to Ninilchick, parked at the beach and Mom and I walked around a bit.  The tide was up and the clammers were gone.  The rocks where eagles had been a few days before were surrounded by water on the incoming tide.  We saw a moose as we turned up the drive to the church, and wondered if it was the same one we had seen here yesterday.

From there we drove up to Cohoe and went to Crooked Creek SRA, a very popular bank-fishing spot on the Kasilof River.  There was a fair crowd there, and more arriving as people got off work.  We saw a couple of good-sized kings come in.

Fresh air, fresh salmon, fresh flowers!

We cooked and ate dinner in the parking lot, then drove back to Eric’s, arriving around 8:30.  As we walked in, Eric told us that he had set up a 5 AM fishing trip for us!  We would drive about an hour, hike up the Russian River about an hour, fish in an area that few people ever saw, and we might just see a bear!  We ran in to town to buy some waders and fishing licenses, and then hit the sack, excited about our new adventure.
