June 26
I woke about 7:30 to the sound of a foghorn bellowing. I got a shower, went to the café for coffee, then to the lounge. We were in a narrow strait in heavy fog. It was so thick that I could barely see the channel markers go by. I was in a t-shirt, and walked down the side deck in comfort...the weather had warmed considerably. I struck up a conversation with a lady in the lounge; she was a commercial fishergirl who lived on a sailboat in Wrangell. We chatted for quite a while as the fog broke, then banked up again. We would go from areas of dense fog to areas of brilliant sunshine, and would be able to see the next fogbank coming up. It was stunning, and I finally ran down the cabin to get Lana’s camera. She came up in about 45 more minutes, and Mom popped up as we entered Queen Charlotte Sound, which was rolling a little, but had beautiful scenery.

After the fog burned off, we had a warm sunny day. People were running around in shorts and tanktops. We spent the majority of the day in the observation lounge, just enjoying the scenery.
