Conclusion

It is hard to say that one trip is better than another.  Each one is different...different areas, different roads, different weather, different experiences.  But this trip had to be one of the best.  The riding was simply outstanding.  I can't imagine a better mix of roads.  A big "Thank You" to all those Internet friends that tipped me off on your favorite local byways.  You made this trip what it was.

We didn't get to New Hampshire, Maine, or Nova Scotia, and that is a pity.  Gotta get back up there one day.  I would like to have spent several days in Vermont.  And I think Virginia/West Virginia deserve a trip of their own.  Maybe Lana and I can do a trip there next fall, and check out some historical sites while we are at it.

It was great to see Rob again.  It had been too many years.  Toronto was the best place for us to have a couple of rain days, since we had a comfortable place to stay and a good buddy to spend the time with.  Not to mention a stocked bar and fridge!

The bikes ran flawlessly.  We both got over 40 MPG the whole trip.  Gas prices ranged from a low of $2.10 in Virginia to a high of $3.22 in New York.  I think we paid about $4 a gallon in Canada, after you adjust for the currency exchange.

It would have been great to be on the road a few weeks later, to catch more of the fall color change.  But overall, it's hard to complain about the weather we had.

The little first aid kit that I have carried for years got it's first use this trip, on Eric, then on the rider from Panama City.  But neither rider was seriously injured, and both went on to complete their trip as planned.

We rode 4,549 miles over 14 riding days (we didn't ride 3 days of the trip), for an average of 325 miles per day.  Not high mileage by any standard, but they sure were fun miles.

Time for a new rear tire.

So what's next?  Next year's trip will be a short one, as we will only have a week.  Arkansas is looking good, or perhaps dead head to Virginia, ride 5 days, and dead head back.  We may just ride the familiar area where Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee meet.  Who knows...

See 'ya on the road!
