June 21

Today was our last day at Eric’s.  We were headed to Seward to take a boat tour of Kenai Fjords National Park with Major Marine Tours.  The Conners had never taken the tour, so they joined us.  We were up at 6, and Eric’s parents came over for breakfast…it was good to see them again.  We were off at 8:30 and had an uneventful drive to Seward.  I had to wander around a bit to find a place to park the RV, but finally found room in a city lot.  We dropped by one of the coffee shops that are all over Alaska for some hot chocolate, then boarded the boat.

The weather was good, with the exception of about 45 minutes of rolling seas, which got a few of the passengers sick.  It was a great trip, we saw just about everything you could expect to see on this trip…otters, eagles, humpbacks, killer whales, puffins, sea lions, even a mountain goat nanny and kid.  In one little cove we got so close to a humpback that we could smell it’s fishy breath!  The ranger conducting the tour said that this was the closest she had ever been to a whale!

After the tour, we said goodbye to the Conners.  They headed back to Soldotna, and we headed south of town to Millers Landing RV Park, where we spent the night.
