October 28

Up at 8, foggy.  It cleared around 10, so we ran up to Blairsville for a late breakfast at the Hole In The Wall café, and I told Richard and Neil about our adventure in this town a couple of weeks ago.  Neil, who is a big guy, ordered the Hungry Man breakfast, and couldn’t finish it.  It was about $5, and the food was GOOD.  I like this town.

From Blairsville we took a meandering route to Helen.  The weather alternated between sunny and cloudy, with some patches of fog.  Richard was in the lead on his Harley dresser, and he set an easy pace.  I had to think of the first time I came to TWO.  Richard had invited me when I rode a Honda Valkyrie.  He had been on a 650 Hawk, and the two other riders with us were on liter-class sportbikes.  I spent the whole weekend trying to keep up with them in the corners, grinding metal and showering sparks as we went.  At the end of the day, I could not have told you where we had been or what we had passed, because I had been concentrating on the road all day!  I appreciated being able to take in a little more scenery today.

By the time we finished our stop in Helen, it was raining AGAIN.  Not hard, but steady.  Did we want to keep riding?  Sure, why not.  So we headed south to a motorcycle store called Toosies that we all really like.  They sell a lot of bikes on consignment, and usually have a pretty interesting collection.  Today found Richard drooling over an old BMW airhead, and Neil checking out a ZZR set up for sport-touring, wondering if he was ready to give up the Harley.  We somehow left without spending any money, and rode a little further to Outdoor World, a cool store with lots of kayaking and camping supplies and a indoor whitewater pool.  I bought a jacket that I had been wanting for a while and was on sale.  It was getting dark on the trip back, still drizzling, with fog up top. TWO’s kitchen was open, since it was Friday night, so we had dinner there.  It POURED while we were eating, and a heavy fog had settled in by the time we went back to the tents.  We sat around and talked while we watched a new arrival try to build a fire in the damp conditions (he was surprisingly successful).  In bed around 11, with the patter of rain on the tent.
